Dr. Barbara Wolanin, who wrote the historical essay on the groups for the exhibition catalogue, will explore the history of Group '55 and how she became engaged with midcentury abstract painting in Philadelphia. She will talk about who the members were, how some of them branched off into the Philadelphia Abstract Artists, focusing on their accomplishments, and how they made a difference for the art world in 1950s Philadelphia and even today. Almost half of the abstract painters who joined together in 1955 were women.  This event will be offered online through Zoom and registration is required. Registrants will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom meeting link.

Barbara will try to make a recording available later along with a discussion for the WCADC chapter, if there is interest.
